Leave them more than money. Leave them a legacy.

When setting up your guardianship or estate plan, consider leaving your children more than just your money and your things. Pass down your memories, your values, your story. Consider creating a series of audio or visual recordings talking about events or issues that matter to you and that will bring joy to your loved ones long after you're gone. Update and add to it as your children grow. Here are few prompts to get you started:

  1. Describe each one of your children and tell what you love about them and what you are most of proud of them for.

  2. Tell the story of how you met their mother or father.

  3. Tell them the story of the day/night they were born.

  4. Give them the story of your own childhood. Where did you grow up? What was your neighborhood like? Describe your friends, parents, school.

  5. Explain the values that are most important to you and why.
